From 1 August 2007 consumers in the district will be informed about food safety standards found in the district’s food businesses.
Following programmed inspections each food business included in the scheme will be given a star rating related to hygiene, structure and confidence in management. A certificate will be issued to food businesses to display in their premises and the star rating will be published on the council’s website.
We believe that publicising and issuing star awards will give higher achieving businesses the recognition they deserve and will drive up standards in the poorer performing businesses.
A five star award scheme has been developed based on national guidance and the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice. This will give the public and businesses a quick method of establishing compliance with the legislation.
Each premises will be given a scores by the environmental health team following the food hygiene inspection and this will then be converted into stars.
