Commercial waste - collection

About this service

The council offers a daily collection service to companies in the city and a weekly service in the remainder of the district, although more frequent collections can be arranged in some circumstances.

Businesses have a legal responsibility under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to ensure their waste is disposed of at a suitably licensed site by a registered carrier of waste. Failure to do so could result in a £20,000 fine or six months' imprisonment.

The service is supplied on request and each company must complete a Trade Waste Agreement, to which conditions are attached, and a Duty of Care Note.

Refuse should be placed in black bags, dustbins with well-fitting lids or bulk containers. These can be the company's own bulk bins or ones hired from the council. The council does not supply bags or dustbins.

Service charges are reviewed annually in April.

Payment

Per bin / sack = £1.21 + VAT

Wheeled bins:

  • 120 litre bin = £4.49 + VAT
  • 240 litre bin = £5.60 + VAT
  • 660 litre bin = £8.29 + VAT
  • 1100 litre bin = £9.61 + VAT

Wheeled Bin Lock = £40 + VAT

Bulky Commercial Waste including disposal of condemned food (per hour) = £72.50 + waste disposal charge + landfill tax + VAT
Minimum charge 30 minutes.
